Is self-catering right for your holiday?

An apartment can suit you if you like breakfast at your own pace, space to relax and the freedom to eat out when you fancy it. You do not have to spend your holiday cooking: a fridge for drinks and a simple breakfast may be all you need.

The trade-off is that services vary. Daily cleaning, a staffed reception, luggage storage and a late arrival service should never be assumed. Compare the particular apartment and rate you are booking, rather than relying only on the building name.

Where to stay in a Benidorm apartment

Levante & Rincón de Loix

Start here if your plans centre on Levante beach, live shows and the lively eastern side of town. Check the exact street and room position if you want to sleep before the bars finish.

Some addresses farther inland or towards the hillside involve an uphill return. A map pin close to the beach does not tell you how easy the walk is.

Old Town & centre

A useful starting point for tapas, browsing the lanes and splitting your time between the two main beaches. Look carefully at access, lift provision and the route from your transfer drop-off.

A central apartment can still overlook a busy bar or street. Read recent comments about noise for the particular accommodation.

Poniente

Consider this side if the seafront and a more relaxed beach routine are your priorities. Choose the end nearest the Old Town if regular trips to its restaurants matter to you.

Poniente covers a long stretch: compare your address with the places you actually want to visit, especially for late evenings.

For a wider comparison, see our guide to the best areas to stay and Benidorm beaches guide. These area suggestions are a starting point, not a guarantee of quietness or facilities.

Studio, apartment or aparthotel?

TypeWhat to checkMay suit
StudioThe living and sleeping space is usually combined. Confirm whether the bed folds away and how much space remains when it is in use.Couples or solo travellers who need a simple base.
One or two bedroom apartmentCheck the number of separate bedrooms, real beds versus sofa beds, bathrooms and maximum occupancy.Families or friends who want separate sleeping spaces.
AparthotelMay combine apartment facilities with reception or shared services. Read the actual inclusions; the label alone does not promise hotel-style service.Travellers who like self-catering with some support on site.

“Sleeps four” may mean two people on a sofa bed in the lounge. Check the floor plan and bed arrangements before comparing that price with two bedrooms.

Eight checks before you book

  1. Cooking equipment: confirm the hob, microwave, oven, kettle and utensils you need. A kitchenette may be quite basic.
  2. Cooling and heating: check which rooms have air conditioning or heating, whether it is included and whether there are seasonal limits.
  3. Total cost: compare the same dates and occupancy, including any cleaning, linen, parking or other mandatory charges shown in the booking conditions.
  4. Deposit: check the amount, payment method, when it is collected and the stated refund arrangements. Keep this separate from the holiday price.
  5. Arrival: find out where keys are collected, reception hours and the procedure if your flight is delayed. Key collection may be away from the apartment.
  6. Access: confirm steps, lift access from street level, bathroom layout and the walking route if mobility matters to your party.
  7. Pool and cleaning: confirm opening dates, any shared facilities and how often cleaning or towel changes happen.
  8. Booking rules: check cancellation terms, age requirements, group restrictions and whether your party type is accepted.

For a privately managed flat, read reviews of the exact listing and check who will help if something goes wrong. Two apartments in the same tower can have different equipment, condition and management.

How to compare value without chasing the lowest nightly price

Shortlist an area first, then compare three stays using the same dates and guests. Add accommodation, meals, transfers and likely local transport. A cheaper apartment across town may be less convenient if most of your evenings are elsewhere.

Compare a refundable rate with the cheaper restricted rate before deciding. If you plan to eat every meal out, also check whether a hotel with breakfast would work better. Our Benidorm budget guide helps you think through the complete bill.

Making self-catering easy once you arrive

Keep the first shop small: breakfast, drinks and a few basics until you know what is supplied. Check the fridge and cooking equipment before buying a week’s food. Ask your host about the nearest supermarket and check its opening hours locally.

Mix easy meals with eating out. Browse our breakfast guide and Old Town tapas guide, then use the Benidorm365 app for food, bars, directions and entertainment.

Apartment questions

Are self-catering apartments always cheaper than hotels?

No. Compare the full stay, meals, extras and transport. The best value depends on your dates, party size and how you spend your holiday.

Can I find an apartment near the Strip but still sleep well?

Check the exact street, bedroom direction and recent noise reviews. Ask the property directly about your needs; proximity alone cannot guarantee a quiet room.

Will the Trip.com search show apartments only?

The search covers hotels and apartments. After entering your dates, use the available accommodation filters on Trip.com and read the room details before booking.
