Albir Day Trip from Benidorm: Beach, Promenade & Lighthouse
Albir is a lovely option for a change of pace: a stroll by the sea, somewhere for lunch and, if you feel energetic, a walk towards the lighthouse. Nobody is checking your step count. A coffee with a view is a perfectly respectable holiday activity.

What kind of day out is Albir?
Albir is the coastal part of l’Alfàs del Pi, north of Benidorm. It works well when you would like to explore somewhere different without building the whole day around a major attraction. Decide whether you want a seafront outing or a walking outing before you leave; the packing list changes quite a bit.
For a first visit, we suggest keeping the promenade and lunch as your core plan. Add the lighthouse only if the weather, available time and everyone’s energy make it a good idea. “We might as well” has launched quite a few unexpectedly long family walks.
Things to do in Albir
Enjoy the promenade
Start near the beachfront tourist information office on Passeig de les Estreles. The anchor sculpture marks a useful place to get your bearings. Give yourselves time for a waterfront wander rather than immediately setting off towards the next place on a map.
Make lunch part of the outing
Choose a menu that suits your group and check serving times when you arrive. For a relaxed day, one comfortable lunch stop is more useful than a long list of restaurants you never reach. Families can keep the next activity flexible until everyone has eaten.
Consider the lighthouse walk
The surfaced route from the park entrance towards Albir lighthouse is approximately 2.5 km each way: around 5 km out and back, plus your walk to the start. Do not confuse the distance to the lighthouse with the entire day’s walking. Our dedicated lighthouse blog post explains how to plan it.
Keep the beach stop realistic
The shore is stony rather than a wide Benidorm-style sandy beach. Suitable footwear can make a beach visit more comfortable. Check the sea conditions and signs if you intend to swim; a pretty photograph does not tell you what the water is doing that day.
Getting from Benidorm to Albir
Avanza’s line 010 connects Benidorm with Albir and Altea. Its published route includes Avenida del Mediterráneo, Rincón de Loix and Severo Ochoa before Albir stops. This makes the bus worth checking if you are based on the Levante side of Benidorm.

Check the stop and direction for the return as well. If you are considering rail, El Albir station is not directly on the beachfront: the local tourist office describes a walk of around 20 minutes from the station to its beach office. Compare the complete journey with the bus before choosing. Consult TRAM’s current planner for services.
A taxi can be convenient if you prefer fewer walking connections. Ask about the fare and be specific about whether you want the seafront or the lighthouse-route entrance. They are different destinations.
Choose the day that suits your group
The easygoing version
Bus to Albir, waterfront wander, lunch and return. Keep the afternoon open rather than filling it with obligations.
The walking version
Travel to Albir, find the park entrance, walk the lighthouse route, then have lunch if time allows. Carry water from the start.
The mixed-group version
Agree a meeting place and time. Some can walk while others enjoy the seafront; do not rely on everyone having the same pace.
Practical tips that make the day nicer
- Wear comfortable shoes. Especially if your “little stroll” includes the lighthouse.
- Carry water and sun protection. Start a longer walk prepared rather than assuming facilities along the route.
- Check conditions. Weather, park access and transport can affect the plan.
- Plan for your own mobility needs. The seafront and park route are different environments; ask local tourist information about current access and facilities.
- Allow time for the return. Your Benidorm dinner booking will not move itself.
Albir or Altea?
Albir is our suggestion for a day centred on the waterfront and an optional nature walk. Altea offers the historic hilltop setting and old streets. Read the side-by-side comparison if your group is split between the two.
Is Albir lighthouse right beside the promenade?
No. Allow for reaching the park entrance and then walking the route itself, not just arriving in Albir.
Must I do the lighthouse walk to enjoy Albir?
Not at all. A seafront wander and lunch make a worthwhile outing on their own.
